Which? responds to the BRC figures on payments and cash use

Gareth Shaw, Head of Money at Which?, said:

“The way that consumers are purchasing goods and services is changing, but millions of people still rely on cash.

“However, industry mismanagement and a lack of action from the regulator has left the cash network seriously suffering and at risk of collapse.

“The government’s payments review must ensure that people have access and choice to their preferred way to pay, and are not hit with excessive costs – whether it is fees businesses are charging for card transactions, or consumers being charged to access their own cash.”
