Which? responds to warnings that the energy price cap is expected to rise to £2,800 in October

Natalie Hitchins, Which? Home Products and Services Editor, said:

“Millions of people are already facing soaring energy costs and the prospect of a further hike of nearly £1,000 to the price cap risks pushing families and households up and down the country into fuel poverty.

“The government must put support in place to help those struggling to make ends meet – which, if the price cap rises to the levels predicted, will become an ever growing number of people.

“The government and regulators must also ensure people can rely on robust consumer protections that will prevent them from being exploited by businesses. Ofgem must move quickly on its pledge to take tough action against energy suppliers that are charging people too much for direct debits – and send a clear message that this behaviour from businesses is totally unacceptable.”
