Does exactly what it says on the tin: Which? reveals the chocolate boxes likely to delight this Christmas
An investigation by Which? has revealed the right chocolate box for you based on your tastes this Christmas – and which comes in cheapest.
The consumer group looked at the contents of five festive chocolate tubs, sorting the chocolates into various categories – fudges, toffees and caramels; fruits and coffee cremes; solid chocolate, and chocolate with nuts and praline.
Which? counted the number of each chocolate category that came in Nestle Quality Street, Cadbury Roses, M&S Big Selection, Sainsbury’s Chocolate Treats and Waitrose Christmas Chocolate Favourites.
The study found that Cadbury Roses are the best choice for fans of nuts and praline, with over a quarter (28%) of the box made up of nut-filled chocolates.
If fruits or coffee cremes are your choice, then Quality Street had over a third (37%) of the contents of a tin falling into this category.
M&S came top for fudge lovers, with half (51%) of the M&S Big Selection being made up of fudge or caramel chocolates.
But while taste is important, it’s hard to turn down a bargain at this time of year. Quality Street and Sainsbury’s Chocolate Treats were the cheapest according to Which? – both weighing in at 650g and priced at £3.50* (£0.54 per 100g).
On the other hand, Waitrose Christmas Chocolate Favourites were the most expensive chocolate tubs that Which? looked at, with a weight of 600g and a price of £6 (£1 per 100g).
Natalie Hitchins, Which? Head of Home Products and Services, said:
“When the chocolate boxes come out, it’s a clear sign that Christmas is just around the corner.
“Our analysis reveals that whatever your tastes, there’s a chocolate tub for you. Use our research to make sure you spend your money on one that will bring you the most joy this Christmas.”
