Save hundreds with Which? long-haul holiday hacks

New research from Which? Travel has identified the ‘sweet spot’ to visit many popular long-haul destinations when you can save money, beat the crowds and still get good weather.

Which? looked at flight and hotel costs of dozens of popular destinations around the world – including Miami, Auckland, Tokyo, Galapagos and Buenos Aires – to find the best savings and decent weather so you can make the most of the attractions on offer.

Top picks include Miami in October when you could save £804 on average against peak summer season. Temperatures are perfect and it’s a great time to save money when Miami’s attractions offer ‘buy one, get one free’ tickets.

Visiting Buenos Aires in April, when the city is quieter and there are fewer tourists around, makes it easier to see the biggest sights. You can also save £333 on average against the peak season price.

Rory Boland, Which? Travel Editor, said:

“Holiday destinations are often too hot, too crowded and too expensive at peak times, and wet and deserted in low season. But for most places, there is a sweet spot, when the weather is fine, crowds are thin and prices are low.

Notes to Editors

  1. Research: Which? looked at flight and hotel costs for 28 popular destinations around the world – including locations such as Miami, Bali, Tokyo and Buenos Aires – to find the best savings combined with reasonable weather (rainfall, temperature and sunshine hours).
We gathered average monthly flight prices from Skyscanner and average monthly hotel prices (three stars or higher) from Trivago, combining them to establish the cost of a week’s holiday.
  2. Country experts: To ensure that our research – and selected months to visit – would provide the best
experience possible, we consulted a country expert for their views on visiting outside of peak season.
