Students rate northern unis best for nightlife

According to 11,000 undergraduates surveyed by Which? University, unis in the north came out on top for nightlife, while unis in the south topped the ratings for their creative and political scenes.

The new research, conducted by YouthSight on behalf of Which? University, reveals the top universities in the UK for nightlife, sports, student unions, and politics and creative scenes, as ranked by 11,000 current students in over 100 universities across the UK.

Northumbria and Newcastle Universities were rated highest by students for nightlife. 11 out of the 19 other unis that scored highly for nightlife were in the North or Scotland.

The universities rated highest for their political and creative scenes were all in the South. SOAS, University of London, was ranked as ‘most political’ by students; whilst Falmouth University, University of the Arts, London and Norwich University of the Arts were rated the most creative.

Students voted the University of East Anglia, University of Edinburgh, University of Glasgow, University of Leeds and the University of Sheffield as the best all-rounder universities, scoring highly across all of our categories. The University of Leeds came top for the most active student unions and Loughborough the most sporty.

Alex Neill, Which? Director of Campaigns and Policy said:

“There are many factors to consider when deciding where to go to university, so hearing how current students rate their university, on everything from nightlife to the political scene, can be really useful.

It’s always worth taking some time to consider all the options and do some research into what each university offers you before you make your decision.”
