“Crucial that expectant parents have access to the information they need” – Which? Birth Choice response to NHS England’s Maternity Review

Alex Neill at Which? Birth Choice, said:

“Choice is essential when deciding how and where to give birth but it is crucial that expectant parents have access to the information they need in order to make decisions based on their individual needs. Expectant parents should be directed to free websites, like Which? Birth Choice, which provide tailored advice based on their local services and personal preferences.”

Background:

  • Which? Birth Choice is a free website providing everything expectant parents need to know to decide on where to give birth. It brings together information on the facilities and services provided by local maternity services in one place (including hospital labour wards, birth centres and home birth services), enabling expectant parents to make informed decisions. Results of the Birth Choice tool are personalised, taking into account a parent’s location, personal preferences and individual circumstances as well as the recommendations in the NICE guidelines to suggest the local options most suitable to the individual using the tool.
