Endochrine Disrupting Chemicals
- Endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) can be found in a range of products, including toiletries, to prolong the shelf life of certain beauty products.
- As part of a wider European study in to these chemicals, 66 products tested, including shampoos, sunscreens, body lotions, toothpaste, deodorant, face cream and hand wash, were all found to be within EU safety limits for EDCs.
- But Which? says that not enough is known about these chemicals and their combined effect. We are pleased that the Government is doing further research in this area.
A Which? spokesperson said:
“It is reassuring that all of the products tested were found to be below EU safety limits for endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs).
“While there is no cause for alarm, not enough is known about these chemicals and their combined effect, so we are pleased that the Government is doing further research in this area.”
