Statement on Deputy Prime Minister’s announcement to cut energy bills
Responding to the Deputy Prime Minister’s announcement about efforts to cut household energy bills, Richard Lloyd, Which? executive director says:
“There is widespread distrust of the energy industry and real anger at the way it has treated its customers for many years, with consumers collectively overpaying £4 billion a year for their energy by not switching to the cheapest prices. Most people find it much too complicated to work out how much they should be paying for gas and electricity so these moves to make it easier to find a cheaper deal are an important step forward at a time when so many are struggling to pay their bills. But Nick Clegg will have to do much more to convince people it will make sense to get into debt with a Green Deal loan to pay for energy efficiency measures that energy suppliers can’t give away right now.”
