“We expect to see Ofgem use this index to monitor suppliers and hold them to account” – Which? response to the launch of Ofgem’s Supplier Cost Index

Vickie Sheriff, Which? Director of Campaigns and Communications, said:

“The new index is a step in the right direction to introduce more transparency and help to understand what factors impact people’s bills. We expect to see Ofgem use this index to monitor suppliers and hold them to account to help protect customers from paying more than they need to for their energy.

“Ofgem’s State of the Market report due later this year should tell us whether the market is working effectively for consumers.”

Notes to Editors:

  • Which? is calling on all energy companies to find new ways of getting customers stuck on poor value deals to move. Our ‘Fair Energy Prices’ campaign is challenging the energy companies to publish plans by 31st January 2017 detailing how they will engage standard tariff customers and take immediate action this winter to deliver against this plan.
