Which? comments as Avro Energy and Green cease trading
Lisa Barber, Which? Home Products and Service Editor, said:
“Hundreds of thousands of energy customers will be affected and understandably concerned by the collapse of Avro and Green Energy, while millions of people will be apprehensive following speculation that other small energy companies could suffer the same fate.
“Ofgem will appoint new energy suppliers to take over and protect any credit customers have so they can be reassured they won’t be cut off or lose their money. We’d recommend taking a meter reading as soon as possible to ensure the transition is as smooth as it can be.
“Customers are under no obligation to stay with the appointed provider and should consider shopping around, once they’ve moved to the new supplier. While there are relatively few cheap deals on the market, there are still some competitive fixed-rate tariffs that can offer some stability as prices remain volatile.”
