“Whether it’s to pay for everyday essentials, or to keep track of spending amid higher living costs, cash remains an important lifeline for many consumers.
“These figures show that, despite widespread ATM and bank branch closures across the country, there is still a need to withdraw and deposit cash.
“Now that the government has introduced legislation to protect cash, this must ensure that clear requirements are placed on industry to meet communities’ need for cash and that the Financial Conduct Authority is given appropriate powers to monitor and enforce these as soon as possible.”
