“While many consumers have managed to make the transition to paying digitally, millions still rely on cash everyday to pay for essentials as well as to budget – something that has taken on an increased significance as the cost of living soars.
“The banking industry’s proposals to protect consumers’ access to cash are welcome, but there is widespread agreement that what’s needed most to underpin those is long-promised government legislation. That means appointing the FCA as the key regulator to protect cash services for as long as they are needed.”
