Which? responds to Environmental Audit Committee report on electronic waste

Michael Briggs, Which? Head of Sustainability, said:

“There are a serious lack of robust, sustainable solutions for consumers when it comes to extending the lifespan of electronic devices.

“Tech firms must be more transparent about vital security updates, and those offering them for only a couple of years need to do better, otherwise electronic products such as mobile phones can end up vulnerable to hackers or prematurely dumped in a landfill site.

“The government must also push ahead with planned legislation, backed by strong enforcement, to ensure manufacturers are much clearer about security updates for smart devices and their impact on consumers.”
