Which? responds to payment figures from the British Retail Consortium that show cash and card usage in 2018
Gareth Shaw, Head of Money, Which?, said:
“While digital payments are on the rise, cash still accounts for a huge volume of transactions. Yet millions of people across the UK who rely on cash are struggling to access it due to bank branch closures and a massive reduction in the number of free cash machines.
“The government and regulators must urgently get a grip on these rapid changes to the cash landscape by introducing legislation that guarantees people across the UK can continue to access this important payment method for as long as it is needed.”
