Which? responds to Scottish Economy, Jobs and Fair Work Committee report on bank closures

Gareth Shaw, Which? Money Expert, said:

“The Committee’s report and inquiry into this issue is good news for those Scottish consumers hardest hit by bank closures. Our research shows that branch closures in Scotland in particular are happening at an alarming rate – stripping customers and communities of access to the financial services they need.

“Not enough work has been done to ensure that consumers, in Scotland and across the UK, continue to have long-term access to banking services – whether that be through a local bank branch or alternatives such as cashpoints.

“We are glad the report echoes our calls for the Government or regulator to step in and conduct an urgent review into consumer access to cash. It is vital that urgent action is taken to protect those areas that are most vulnerable.”
