Which? responds to the announcement of a Digital Markets Unit to tackle data and advertising dominance
Rocio Concha, Director of Policy and Advocacy at Which?, said:
“Weak competition in some digital markets is bad for consumers, leading to reduced choice and giving up more data than they would like. We’re concerned about people’s lack of control over their personal data and how Facebook and Google’s stranglehold on the digital advertising market could potentially drive up prices, so it’s very positive that a new regime is being introduced to challenge their dominance.
“It’s vital that the Digital Markets Unit is brought into law without delay. It needs powers to take strong action to hold tech giants to account and to ensure consumers feel tangible benefits through having more choice and greater control over their data.”
