Which? responds to the news energy bills could reach more than £3,600 this winter

Rocio Concha, Which? Head of Policy and Advocacy, said:

“Millions of people are already facing soaring energy costs and worried about how the October price cap will impact their bills. The prospect that average energy bills could reach more than £3,600 this winter risks pushing even more people into fuel poverty.

“It is vital that government and businesses work together to ensure that targeted support reaches the ever-growing number of consumers struggling to make ends meet.

“The government and regulators must also ensure people can rely on robust consumer protections that will prevent them from being exploited by businesses. Ofgem must continue to stop poor performance – such as some suppliers miscalculating direct debit payments – and quickly step in to impose penalties on any suppliers that fail to make the necessary improvements.”
