Which? responds to the news impersonation scams have more than doubled in the first half of 2021
Gareth Shaw, Head of Which? Money, said:
“It is hugely concerning to hear that impersonation scams have more than doubled in the first half of 2021.
“There has been a devastating spike in scams during the pandemic as fraudsters have exploited people’s isolation during lockdowns and used new coronavirus scams to part people from their hard-earned cash.
“Any unexpected emails, texts or phone calls from a trusted organisation such as your bank, a government provider or your phone company asking for personal information or bank details should be treated as suspicious. Don’t give any details over the phone and if in any doubt, contact the company directly to check if the request is genuine.”
