Which? responds to US trade negotiator’s comments on food standards
Sue Davies, Head of Consumer Protection and Food Policy at Which?, said:
“It is deeply concerning that American negotiators think British shoppers will stomach a lowering of food standards, that could open the door to hormone-pumped beef, over-use of antibiotics and pesticides that we don’t currently permit here.
“The British government must not underestimate how much of a deal-breaker food standards are for consumers in this country. It has made promises to protect the food on our plates, but these commitments must be enshrined in legislation so consumers can have confidence that they won’t be traded away in future deals.”
