Which? response as CMA launches Covid-19 taskforce
Sue Davies, Head of Consumer Protection, Which?, said:
“It’s unacceptable for any business to be exploiting the coronavirus outbreak to take advantage of consumers. A lack of effective checks and controls creates a perfect environment for scams and rip-offs, so it is good to see the CMA is putting resources into tackling this issue and is prepared to take strong action against those found to be breaking the law.
“The government must work with businesses such as supermarkets and online retailers, as well as with Trading Standards and the CMA, to protect consumers from issues such as sellers misleading people and overpricing essential household items during this time.”
