Which? response as Treasury committee pushes technology giants on online fraud policies

Rocio Concha, Which? Director of Policy and Advocacy, said:

“The UK is in the grip of a fraud epidemic so it’s good that the committee is demanding answers from tech companies on what they are doing to stop criminals using their sites to scam victims.

“There is widespread agreement that the best way to protect consumers from being exposed to paid-for scam advertising on online platforms is through legislation and the Online Safety Bill presents the perfect opportunity for the government to act.

“It’s essential that the draft Online Safety Bill is amended so that online platforms are required to prevent fraudulent paid-for adverts from appearing on their sites.”
