Which? response to BEIS select committee product safety update
Sue Davies, Head of Consumer Protection at Which?, said:
“From the Whirlpool tumble dryer scandal to unsafe goods sold via online marketplaces, it’s clear that progress from the government’s product safety regulator has been far too slow – with a lack of transparency and firm action to get dangerous products out of people’s homes.
“We need a stronger, independent product safety regulator that can better anticipate risks to consumer safety and take swift action when problems arise.
“It is also vital that the government steps in to make online marketplaces responsible for ensuring the safety of the products sold on their sites, so that consumers can have trust in what they are buying.”
