Which? response to EDF Energy’s profit announcement

Which? executive director Richard Lloyd said:

 “With news of multi-million pound profits, and spiralling energy prices consistently one of people’s top concerns, it’s no surprise that fewer than a quarter of us trust energy companies. People will not feel confident that they are getting a fair deal unless energy prices are simplified and the costs that make up our bills are open, transparent and subject to robust scrutiny.

“The Government and regulator must do more to rebuild trust in suppliers and to keep prices in check. We want the Government to introduce simple pricing and ring-fence energy supply from generation businesses so consumers can see exactly what they’re paying for and be more confident that there is effective competition in the energy market.”
