Which? response to flights at Heathrow being delayed or cancelled
In response to flights being delayed and cancelled due to the emergency landing at Heathrow today, a Which? spokesperson said:
“Passengers who suffer delays to their flights are obliged to be given drinks and refreshments by the airline and could also be entitled to meals, free phone calls and overnight accommodation depending on the circumstances. Passengers may also be entitled to compensation, but this won’t be due if the airline can prove the delay or cancellation was caused by ‘extraordinary circumstances’.
“Your entitlement will depend on how long the delay is, how far you are flying and whether the flight is to or from an EU or non-EU airport. Our advice is always to contact your airline before travelling to the airport to check if your flight has been affected.”
Further advice on flight delays and cancellations is available on the Which? Consumer Rights website.
