Which? response to the exclusion of legislation to protect access to cash in the Queen’s Speech

Gareth Shaw, Head of Money at Which? said:

“Despite committing to protect access to cash more than a year ago, the government is still not taking decisive action to prevent the dramatic deterioration of an already fragile cash system that has taken place as a result of the pandemic.

“This is yet another missed opportunity to provide any sort of plan for how the system will be safeguarded. If the government continues to delay its legislation, the system may soon buckle, and it will then face a colossal challenge to repair the damage, with millions of people who rely on cash left abandoned.”
