Which? response to warning over major Android ‘package delivery’ scam

Kate Bevan, Which? Computing editor, said:

“This is a really nasty scam that tells you by SMS to download and install a so-called delivery ‘tracking app’ that is actually malware that can take over your phone – it’s the latest in a long line of tactics used by callous fraudsters.

“Always be wary of unsolicited texts, and think twice before you click on a link in an SMS. If you’re not sure, contact the delivery company’s official customer service helpline, and if you think it’s a scam, report it by forwarding it to 7726.

“As ever, it’s important to make sure that your mobile phone is up to date with security patches. Consider also installing mobile security software from a trusted brand.”
